Project Objectives

As a Cloud Administrator executing the ShopSphere database migration, the core objectives are:

• Design a production-ready database schema: Model relational entities for customers, categories, products, orders, and line items to support e-commerce operations.
• Deploy MySQL on EC2: Configure a self-hosted database instance on Amazon Linux to serve as our current baseline environment.
• Populate the database with realistic test data: Generate and load bulk test records using Python and Faker to simulate production application traffic.
• Analyze baseline performance: Benchmark query execution latency and system throughput on EC2 using internal profiling tools and mysqlslap.
• Migrate the database to Amazon RDS: Transition the database workload into isolated private subnets on AWS RDS with zero schema or data loss.
• Compare performance before and after migration: Evaluate query response times, system resilience, and operational trade-offs to document architectural findings.
